Episode 2 Thoughts [27 Sep 2001|01:11pm]

Finally finished Ep 2 last weekend. Here are my thoughts, separated by lj-cut due to spoilers. DON'T READ if you don't want to know what happens.

Episode 2 Difficulty [20 Sep 2001|05:28pm]

mr_dark
Is anyone else near the end of Episode 2 starting to get a little lost?

I don't seem to have trouble moving forward, as things seem to be in 'sit back and let things happen' mode. I can't help but wonder if there's something I could be doing with all this info I've been fed about satellites and such. It seems like I've been sent a ton of useful, precise data that I either can't do anything with or I don't understand.

Anyone else running into this, or is it just me?

Dear Majestic Player,

EA has temporarily suspended service on Majestic. Given the recent
national tragedy, we feel that some of the fictional elements in the
game may not be appropriate at this time. We will contact you again
concerning resumption of the game.

We appreciate your patience and understanding.

Regards,

The Majestic Team

NEWS ON MAJESTIC STATUS!!! [11 Sep 2001|06:21pm]

mr_dark
I contacted EA's support chat, and they have indeed taken Majestic OFFLINE for the time being.

The reason stated was that they did not want to risk any confusion between Majestic and the events of today.

The rep was unable to give me any estimated time of return, and suggested that I check back from time to time.

I'll probably just tap the server every once in awhile to check.

If I find out anything new, I'll post it here ASAP.

Revelations [08 Sep 2001|11:29pm]

mr_dark
I'm a bit pissed about the revelations. Because I'm already past Episode 1, I don't get the first Revelation puzzles! Drat!

For those of you not following things closely, the Revelations puzzles tie into Solitaire1947, the fella who kept putting hidden messages in the Majestic Newsletters. They're meant to be extra hard puzzles for people who race through the game.

Problem is, if you finish an episode, you're -done- with the Revelations for that episode. Hence, no Ep. 1 Revs for me.

I'm stuck on the 3rd part of the Episode 2 Revelations, 'Equal or Opposite Danger'. Part 3 is 'Dead on Arrival', and involves a quote from Sophocles.

Anyone else to this point? I think there are only a handful of people there so far, and no one has moved past it.

As for the rest of Ep. 2, I ran into a bug at 2.12 involving a blank (white) page that shouldn't be blank. If you hit that, reply here or e-me, and I'll tell you how to fix the bug.

Hey howdy hey [05 Sep 2001|02:07pm]

[ mood | bored ]

KCMOSHer here, posting for the first time.

I'm posting from work, so no books, just a short howdy and some thoughts.

To let you know where I'm coming from, here are my thoughts so far.

Before the game: totally jazzed. Looking forward to it with great anticipation, as it looked to be -straight- up my alley.

Pilot: Good but short, and a little light on interactivity.

Ep. 1: Very good, but again: short. I attempted to find every little nook and cranny, but still cleared it in less than 2 weeks. I for one appreciated the Standby times because it made it last longer. Still a little light in interactivity, but the story got better and the puzzles were a little more interesting. I was still totally on board at the end of Episode 1, unlike many on this community and elsewhere.

Ep. 2: I'm at 2.10 I think. So far, it -rocks-. Puzzles are way harder, I've actually had to ask for help twice, instead of giving hints like in Ep. 1. Interactivity is up, the chat bots are -way- smarter. Play them straight and ask hard questions: you'll get answers more often than not.

Example (and mild spoiler): When IM'ing with Threeloader, he mentions GoD, his old hacking outfit. The reference was not ABOUT them, just in passing. I threw in 'I thought GoD was dead?' He responded: 'No, not really. They're a dream the white king is having. Good luck.' or something to that effect. I've had other bots respond to offhanded comments that referred to something they said in passing, but not to the main thread of the conversation.

Standby: necessary evil. Good stories require pacing, and this story is told in real-time. That pacing requires BIG gaps in action.

Chat bots: I play them straight. This is like a role-playing game, and I'm a role-player. I fail to see the point in jacking with them for $10 a month. Play the game or don't, but don't bitch about the stupidity of the bots when you insist on being a wise-ass. I've found that 9 times out of 10, if you play along, it's a good experience (and getting steadily better).

Puzzles: Too easy at first, getting much better

Story/acting: I like it, it's the kind of thing I'm interested in and have been for years. The performances are quite good, I think. No Oscars, but look at some game acting in the past. Phew.

So, that's me. I'm in, totally hooked, ready for this thing to run as long as The X Files. Look for me to post here pretty often and try to get some things started.

As aggrivating as it was, that 3-ish week break between Episodes that I had to suffer through actually did some good. Gave me time to get caught up with everything else I'd been neglecting, AND get ready for the new college semester that just started.

Now that I'm slowly starting Episode Two, lets see if the promised improvements and challeges actually materialize. If not, its time to put the horse outta its misery, so we can get around to beating it. Badly.

we have a new member of the majestic journal.

let's all welcome kcmosher. kcmosher is playing on into episode 2. we've lost a few of our posters because they quit the game. hopefully enough people still play to make this journal worthwhile.

thanks again!

Still Playing [23 Aug 2001|04:25pm]

[ mood | disappointed ]

I'm at 1.11 right now because I'd kind of stopped playing for about a week. I will get back into it sometime tonight but I've just been busy with other things. I'm finding it to still be as linear as it started out being, and that kind of bores me. I'm hoping that by the next episode some side stuff will stop happening and that there will be some branches to follow or I might give up on it. The puzzles are just too easy for me.

So is anyone still playing? 10 days and no posts? I'm at 1.16 right now. Haven't had much time to play lately (not that the amount of time I have to play it really matters too much). Any amusing sport with the bots?

The whole "hacker" thing cracks me up. I won't even go into how silly some of it is. *chuckles*

Enough Is Almost Enough [03 Aug 2001|10:35am]

[ mood | sleepless ]

So... WTF happened?

Where are the actual problems to solve, the individual mysteries to unravel?

When did this become a cobbledstone path that you just traipse down once they lay out the bricks?

Even I haven't been challenged in a few days, and that's saying a lot.

Made it to 1.11, and waiting now on a bit of "info" from Shiney so I can play hacker... and once they got the hell outta dodge, I was more bored than enthused, cursing at the Standby times that just do not fit with my schedule.

Alas, though, I shall see it through. It kills time, it makes me think, and there's always the hope that the farther you get Episode-wise, the tougher it'll be.

Side note: [02 Aug 2001|05:11pm]

I think that majestic is a great concept for a game. And sure there are things that are annoying like
paying for it, and the always famous standby time. But I do think its atleast worth the money (check
out the space game that the platinum subscribers get... its a good time killer... but I tend to kill time
with counter-strike).
But this is very new idea that EA and AnimX are dealing w/... in sense we are sort of guinea pigs.
And so far I think they are doing pretty good. I wonder if there is someway that we can talk to the
game creators directly and give them our ideas. If anyone finds out besides just some lame comments
page... let me know.

Peace,
Mike Principito

Hi all,
I was wondering if anyone can help me w/ a side plot that I found. Let me give you the basics on it.
I was searching around for something called HAARP. I stumbled apon HAARP from going to one of
the clues links on the Majestic Community web page:

Is Majestic 12 Real?

On that page there is a code:
HAARP EICD MHCHAOS EDOM EMF FIOA MEMS EBE MKULTRA MJ12 Conspiracies

I know what MEMS is from the game... and a few other things I've seen here and there. But I was wondering
what HAARP was. So like the detective that I am I started poking around. And I found the offical HAARP
government page:

http://w3.nrl.navy.mil/projects/haarp/index.html

Kind of freaky actually. Well I started searching some more and I found this page:
http://www.whataworld.com/portal.html

Which I still have no idea what the damn password is to it.

But I continued to lookup stuff on the change agents. There is a story about them on whataworld.com's main page
which is very interesting. And they have their on mp3.com site: mp3.com/changeagents

But even more interesting I found their homepage (from mp3.com I think) which is:
The Change Agents

Very strange people. There web page has some weird DHTML stuff on it... another password that I figured out
(email or AIM me if you want it). And ton of other weird stuff.

I don't remember how but I found another member of the Alliance named "cabalagent23". He seems to know
a few things about The Change Agents and told me that I should keep updating their webpage.

Well thats enough for now... this isn't a spoiler... its just a side plot. So if anyone can help me figure this thing
out that would be great.

On AIM I'm "ttytabs".

I'll post more as this unfolds a bit.

Peace,
Mike Principito

Ok. I think i've officially stopped playing. I'm fed up with it and it has turned into a waste of time instead of being something interesting. Now I have much more free time to waste on things like reading, or sending emails to Frank, the LiveJournal mascot:

Subject: hrmm

You're just a Nullsoft Llama wannabe. You may worship Mike, but you will
never be Mike. How can a goat ever be as cool as a Llama? I don't know who
you think you're kidding.
